Les is a professional freelance writer and columnist. He won the Frank Jacobs " Gold Award" for Canada's best agricultural/rural column in 2002 and 2004. He began his professional writing career with the Medicine Hat News. Currently, his weekly column in the Calgary Herald continues to attract a lot of attention from urban and rural readers. His book, The Rural Roots Reader, was published in 2002.
